Kidde-Marioff HI-FOG Suppression System

HI-FOG® Water-Mist fire fighting systems utilize small water droplets. This provides two fire fighting methods, both relate to the evaporation of water. First when the water turns into a vapor the water absorbs heat, thus cooling the fire. Second the process of water evaporation expands the water volume over 1,700 times, displacing the oxygen. So the system creates a dense cloud of very small water droplets that absorb and scatter the heat radiation. The system is very flexible, allowing for a wide range of configurations.

HI-FOG® is very flexible in terms of water supply due to the fact it uses such small amounts of water. The water supply for an electrical, gas-driven or diesel driven pump unit utilizes either a main feed or a water tank that can be dedicated to the HI-FOG® system or shared with other systems. Typically, a feed pump is used to add pressure to the inlet water flow, which provides the required pressure for the filter unit on the pump unit. The water supply for HI-FOG® accumulator systems consists of water cylinders that are pre-filled with potable water. Each configuration may contain one or more of the system types mentioned below:

Wet Pipe Suppression System:

Wet pipe system uses automatic sprinklers attached to a piping system containing water and connected to a water supply so that the water discharges immediately from sprinklers operated by the heat from a fire. Wet pipe systems are typically used in accommodation and similar areas with solid combustibles.

Dry Pipe Suppression System:

Dry pipe water mist system uses automatic sprinklers attached to a piping system containing compressed air. The bulb of the sprinkler breaks when the ambient temperature reaches its threshold temperature. Pressure drops in the piping network filled with compressed air. Dry pipe valve open and release water to the sprinklers. Dry pipe systems are typically used in spaces subject to freezing.

Pre-action Suppression System:

The pre-action water mist system uses automatic sprinklers attached to a piping system containing air, with a supplemental detection system installed in the same area as the sprinklers. System activation requires both a signal from the detection system and the heat activation of a sprinkler. Pre-action systems are used to protect areas where the risk of false discharge or leakage must be kept to an absolute minimum.

Deluge Suppression System:

A deluge system is a water mist system using open spray heads attached to a piping system that is connected to a water supply through a valve that is opened by means of a detection system installed in the same area as the spray heads. When the valve opens, water flows into the piping system and discharges through all spray heads attached to the system. Deluge systems are typically used for the protection of machinery with flammable liquid fire hazard.
